Timing, cost, repair versus replacement, impact doors and maintenance. The questions we are asked most.
Stuart Sliding Door Repair answers the questions we get asked most often, about timing, cost, repair versus replacement and impact doors.
Questions about a specific repair are answered on that service page.
These are the general questions. Each service page carries its own FAQ covering the detail specific to that repair.
Same-day appointments are often available, and calling early in the day gives you the best chance of one. Jobs needing ordered glass or an uncommon hardware size are scheduled once the part arrives.
We give a range over the phone from your description, which is free. Where a measure visit is genuinely needed - glass replacement in particular - that visit is included when you go ahead with the repair.
It depends on the frame, not the age. A twenty-year-old door with a sound frame and good glass is worth repairing, because rollers, tracks and locks are all replaceable. A frame corroded through at the sill is the point where replacement becomes the honest answer.
Alignment is often under an hour. Roller replacement on a single panel is usually under two hours. Track capping is normally a single visit. Glass is the exception, because the pane has to be cut to size first.
Yes. Multi-panel doors take longer because each panel has to be handled and re-squared individually, and the pricing reflects panel count rather than opening width alone.
Yes, and it matters that whoever does knows what the rating depends on. Substituting non-rated glass or unmatched hardware into a certified assembly can quietly remove the rating it was installed for.
That is the best time to call, and the cheapest. Stiffness is early roller wear, and dealing with it before the wheels cut the sill is the difference between a service and a much larger repair.
Yes, an annual service that covers track cleaning, weep clearing, correct lubrication and a hardware inspection. Doors close to open water are better on a six-month cycle.
Call and ask - we will confirm current payment options when we book, so there are no surprises at the end of the job.
Ask us on the call and we will tell you exactly what is covered on the specific work you are booking, and for how long. We would rather state that plainly per job than publish a blanket claim.
Our work is repair. When a door is genuinely past repair we will tell you clearly, and explain what has failed, so you can make that decision with accurate information.
A range, yes, and usually a fairly tight one if you can describe the symptom and the panel count. A firm number normally needs eyes on the door, because sill condition is the variable that changes the job.
Call and describe what the door is doing. We would rather answer a question than send someone out to a job that turns out to be a five-minute adjustment.
